Another regular season has come to an end and the curtain is about to rise on the playoffs of the Techfind Serie A1: Famila Wuber, who finished in second place in the standings, will face Alama in the quarter-finals in the best of three matches. We start tomorrow at 8pm at PalaRomare, race two will be on Sunday at 6pm at Palalupe, finally for the possible race 3 we will return to the foot of Pasubio on May 1st at 6pm.

Schio, the reigning Italian champion, does not hide and aims to defend the scudetto sewn onto its shirts but these playoffs promise to be among the most balanced in recent years (at least the regular season demonstrated great balance so much so that most some verdicts were issued on the very last day). In 2024 the Orange have lost only one match in Italy: on January 14th in Sesto San Giovanni by 75-70. From there, coach Dikaioulakos’ team was able to overcome every opponent they encountered, despite ups and downs, which still allowed them to always bring home the two points.

The opponents – The home victory against Sassari on the last day allowed the Lupe to finish in seventh place in the standings. It was the first success after 6 consecutive defeats but it was decisive in getting the playoffs underway and probably boosting morale a little.
The Paduan team have the sixth best attack in the championship: the shooting percentages are not particularly brilliant but the yellow and black team are the first team for attacking rebounds and third for free throws attempted. Data which demonstrates, as always, that Alama makes energy and intensity its gaming philosophy.

The long absence of Kostowicz (the team’s top scorer with 15.6 points) is making itself felt: the teammates are trying to make up for it with their own means but the long USA is a real added value for this team. In his absence Turcinovic (formerly Basket Landes), Conte, Soule and D’Alie (i.e. coach Piazza’s starting quintet) are the main scorers of the yellow and black. Vente and Arado are playing for the last place in the starting lineup, while Russo and Guarise are the changes coming off the bench.

The most curious precedents in the playoffs – The last time the two teams met in the playoffs was in the 2021/22 season, quarter-finals on that occasion too: 2-0 for the Orange who then won the scudetto against Virtus Bologna. In 2020/21, however, the two teams should have always faced each other in the quarter-finals but the too many cases of positivity among the ranks of the she-wolves forced them to withdraw. In 2018/19, however, we witnessed the most hard-fought series because Famila and Fila faced each other in the semi-final (3-1 orange) with the she-wolves taking PalaRomare in game 2.
