Foggia. The departure this morning from Piazza Cavour in Foggia of the fifth and final stage of the “Giro del Mediterraneo in Rosa 2024”, an international women’s cycling competition, was a celebration of sport.
The race, which took place between Campania and Puglia, saw the participation of twenty-one teams with 126 athletes.
The athletes crossed the main city streets on the catwalk, leaving via Lucera to face the final effort that will decide the winner of the event.
The competition was kicked off by deputy mayor Lucia Aprile and the vice-president of the Puglia Puglia Region, who supported the event, Raffaele Piemontese and the sports councilor of the Municipality of Foggia, Domenico Di Molfetta. Also present in the square this morning were the president of the City Council, Lia Azzarone and numerous city councilors.
For councilor Di Molfetta: “seeing the involvement of the city, which has also suffered the normal small inconveniences on traffic that this type of competition entails, is a sign of the potential that our community has to host large international events. As an Administration we always count on the involvement and active participation of our fellow citizens in these events. Just as we feel the duty to thank the organizers, the Cycling Federation and the Puglia Region who have decided to focus on Foggia for this competition, with the important consequences that events like these produce.”
