The women’s cycling Tour of the Mediterranean in Foggia

The final stage of the ‘Giro del Mediterraneo in Rosa 2024’, an international women’s cycling competition, will start from Foggia on Tuesday 23 April at 11am from Piazza Cavour. The race, five stages between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea, involves two regions (Campania and Puglia) and sees the participation of twenty-one teams with 126 athletes from various Mediterranean countries. The final stage which will start from Foggia with arrival in the Dauni Mountains in Motta Montecorvino, involves the caravan crossing the center of the city.

The walkway through the streets of Foggia by one of the most important international women’s cycling competitions will affect large areas of the city and, for safety reasons, it will be necessary to close the center and some urban streets to vehicular traffic, with particularly restrictive measures and transit authorized exclusively for any emergency and police vehicles.

On Tuesday 23rd from 6 am and until the end of the day, Piazza Cavour, Via Lanza and Piazza Giordano will be completely closed. These, however, are the streets which, starting from 11am on Tuesday and until the end of the day, will be closed to traffic because they are used by cyclists leaving the city: Corso Cairoli, Piazza XX Settembre, Corso Garibaldi (the stretch between Via Dante and Via Fuiani), via Fuiani (stretch between Corso Garibaldi and Via Manzoni), Piazza Aldo Moro (stretch between Via Fuiani and Via Muscio), Viale Giotto (right semi-lane with direction of travel between Piazza Moro and Via Altamura), Via Altamura (section between via Menichella and via Lucera), via Lucera (section between via Altamura and the SS.17). The Ferrovie Del Gargano bus terminal will be temporarily moved from Via Galliani to Via Guglielmi.

Along the roads involved in the circuit – and in some neighboring areas – parking is prohibited with forced removal starting from 6 am on Tuesday 23 April and until the end of the passage of the tour caravan. The local police, in the affected areas, will inform the citizens in the next few days with dedicated communications. The cars of disabled people holding concessions located in the prohibited areas will park in the surrounding streets. Among the other requirements imposed for Tuesday morning, the ban on the sale of drinks in glass and can bottles and containers along the race route and in the surrounding 200 meters.
