Last year the final of Madrid Masters 1000 he reserved an epic match for us. A clash between lionesses, worthy of an arena, rather than a final act as an end in itself. Because every time Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek they meet and clash, there are not only points and trophies up for grabs. And so it was, 365 days ago, also at the Caja Magica.
On that occasion it was the Belarusian tiger that prevailed and raised the trophy of the prestigious tournament played on clay to the sky. It might happen again, or it might not. And it’s not even said, on the male front, that Carlos Alcaraz is in a position to defend the title won 12 months ago in his beautiful Spain. Many unknowns, few certainties. Both as regards the ATP part and as regards the WTA part. Anything could happen. Including, why not, that outsiders win.
Who is certain that he won’t get anything done at the Caja Magica is Jannik Sinner, although he is also one of the favorites on clay. The blue has already made it clear, however, that he does not expect to win the Masters 1000 in Madrid. That it is enough for him to win a couple of rounds because his priority, right now, are the Italian Internationals and, even more so, the legendary Roland Garros. But as we know, surprises are always around the corner.

Same unknowns on the front of the women’s major circuit. The public expects the second act of the atavistic duel between Sabalenka and the world number 1, as they are, in fact, the players who competed for the title last year.
To be sure, but above all to find out if the Belarusian and the Polish will really face each other again, we will have to wait a few more hours. The draw for the women’s draw for the Madrid 2024 Masters 1000 is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 21 April, at 6pm. The one relating to the men’s circuit will be held on Monday 22 April, but this time at 11am. Only then will we discover how fate will have decided for the various players competing and what the pairings of the first rounds and the possible paths of the Azzurri will be, by virtue of the scoreboard.
There is no television coverage of the two ceremonies, but it is probable, as this is now the trend, that they will be broadcast live on the tournament’s social channels. It is therefore better to monitor them close to the times mentioned above.
