Currently, MotoGP only has one stop in the United States each season – the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin. In the future, there should be at least two GPs in the country again, as has happened in the past – especially now with the entry of Liberty Media as the owner.
One of the projects is located in the state of Tennessee, with the Flatrock Motorsports Park track being considered a possibility. If confirmed, there would be a “home” stop for Justin Marks’ race team, Trackhouse Racing.
When asked by GPOne.com about this specific project, the executive responded: ‘The discussion is really about looking at North America and determining where we can compete a second time. Those people in Tennessee are building a track to be able to host a MotoGP race, and I think that would be exciting. I live in Tennessee, so it would be exciting to have a race close to home‘.
That said, Marks stressed that it’s not the only possibility for a second US GP, which he believes will be important in promoting interest in MotoGP in the country:
– There are other opportunities out there, and for MotoGP to take another step in popularity in the United States, we need to find another location. I know some of these options, and they are also very exciting, so let’s see.
