Cesenatico is preparing for the next summer season and the month of May that is coming will be full of great sporting events with an army of athletes ready to participate in three highly prestigious competitions: the AIBVC Club Series is scheduled for 3 to 5 May Beach Volleyball Finals in Piazza Costa; Saturday 11th and 12th May arrives for the first edition of the Triathlon Challenge Cesenatico; the 53rd edition of the Nove Colli will take place on Sunday 19 May; On Saturday 25 May and Sunday 26 May the Spartan Race returns in the heart of the Levante Park and on the seafront. It should be remembered that the Triathlon Challenge and Spartan Race are two “new” events wanted by the administration precisely to increase tourist presence at the beginning of the season. A May which is therefore confirmed as one of the most important months for the city on a sporting level with then the great anticipation of the city which will turn to Sunday 30 June with the stage of the Tour de France which will start from Cesenatico and reach Bologna.

From November to May 2024, AIBVC organizes the AIBVC CLUB SERIES by ASI (Championship for Clubs of the Italian Beach Volley Club Association) with the formula of competitions between beach volleyball clubs model “Continental Cup”. It is played with the classic 2 vs 2 formula and each team is made up of 4 to 6 athletes. The series and categories involved this year are: Serie A men’s and women’s; Serie B men’s and women’s; male and female Excellence; the men’s and women’s Under 21s; the Over 45 male and the Over 35 female. The teams at the top of the general rankings will play the Cesenatico finals from 3 to 5 May 2024 in the Arena Beach in Piazza Costa.

Challenge Cesenatico is the medium distance triathlon that is part of the prestigious Challenge Family circuit, which includes more than 40 competitions in 27 countries around the world, involving more than 90,000 athletes. A great sporting event, but not only that. The event goes further, hosting a long weekend of sport: a celebration for athletes, families and the public. The main event is the Half Distance triathlon, which includes a 1.9km swimming portion, a 90km cycling portion that will wind through the hills of the hinterland and a 21km running portion on the Cesenatico seafront packed with spectators. The race weekend also includes the Swim-Bike competition (1.9km swim | 90km bike), the Sprint Triathlon (750m swim | 20km bike | 5km run) and the Junior Duathlon for athletes aged 6 to 19. It is a unique race, because the territory that hosts it is unique, with its numerous attractions: the athletes will not only be able to swim in the calm waters of the Adriatic Sea, cycle along panoramic roads and run along the seafront. The race is in its first edition in Cesena.

The Nove Colli in Cesenatico does not need much introduction and with its 53rd edition it returns to travel along traditional roads after last year’s changes to the route due to the flood. The offer of the oldest granfondo is expanding and in addition to the traditional routes, the beautiful novelty of the other route remains, a milder solution for cycle tourists who want to face a day with less effort. Also worth mentioning is the addition of a gravel route, an absolute novelty, to discover the area and a great opportunity for all enthusiasts of this specialty.

The “Spartan Race” is the most famous and important obstacle race in the world, and has now become a certainty for Cesenatico. The international event takes place inside the Levante Park and on the seafront where the routes of the scheduled competitions will be prepared and set up. There are 3 different types of races: the Corsa Super, on a 10km course with over 25 obstacles to overcome, the Corsa Sprint, suitable for all athletes, on a 5km course with 20 obstacles, and the Corsa Kids, a fun race – sport reserved for children and young people aged between 4 and 15, on a shortened route with fewer obstacles. An even more spectacular night open sprint race is also planned for the evening of Saturday 25 May.

“The May that is about to arrive will be a special month for Cesenatico, the beginning of the summer season and the city celebrating for the many events planned. May 2024 will have to be an even more beautiful May, one year after the flood which Romagna has risen even stronger than before. Let’s warm up our engines because then we will have the historic event of the Tour de France and on Sunday 30 June we will have – really, and not just to say – the eyes of the world on us”, the comment of the mayor Matteo Gozzoli. “Ahead of us we have a May that well represents the idea of sports tourism in Cesenatico: an absolute novelty like the Challenge, the tradition of Nove Colli and Beach Volleyball and the Spartan Race which represents something new which however we have now put to system With these three major events we embrace a broad target audience and we hope to welcome over 10 thousand people to Cesenatico – just those registered for the competitions. We are very happy and proud of the path that led us to this”, the words of councilor Gaia Morara.
