New Year’s Eve of injuries and fires: 57 cases in Naples, one death in Rome. Hundreds of interventions

Injuries are increasing in the Neapolitan area, where a 24-year-old was injured twice in a few hours. In Rome a man bleeds to death after a firecracker explodes. In Emilia Romagna the greatest number of interventions by the Fire Brigade. Between fires, arguments, attacks and panic-stricken animals, the national balance confirms the danger of illegal barrels.

Firefighter interventions have decreased compared to last year, but the number of serious accidents remains high. The authorities renew their appeals for prudence and the purchase of certified pyrotechnic material.

Naples, 57 injured: the heaviest toll in Italy

Naples is the city with the highest number of injuries due to New Year’s Eve bombings. The Police Headquarters confirms 57 people involved between the city and the province, eleven of whom are minors. Forty-two injured in the capital, fifteen in the neighboring municipalities. All the minors have been discharged, while sixteen adults remain under observation. An increase compared to last year, when 36 people were injured.

Among the most serious cases is that of a 24-year-old Roman who lost three fingers in the explosion of a firecracker and, after being released from hospital, injured his face and one eye again after lighting another bomb. In Giugliano a 54-year-old was shot at the end of an argument in a club, but his life was not in danger.

The night was also marked by fires: in Casoria three cars, part of a commercial business and a building were engulfed in flames, probably triggered by a firework. The building suffered no structural damage and there were no injuries.

Rome, one dead and 28 injured: the tragedy of the 63-year-old Moldovan

The capital records the most serious victim in the country. A 63-year-old man of Moldovan origin bled to death after a firecracker exploded in his hand, causing the amputation of his limb. During the night there were also 28 injured, none in danger of life, and around 500 calls to the operations centre, with 250 interventions linked to fireworks.

Northern Italy: minor injuries but numerous interventions

In Milan the night was marked by dozens of interventions by the police due to assaults and arguments, while the injuries from the explosion were all code green. In Turin three people, including a sixteen-year-old, were seriously injured and transported to the Martini and Giovanni Bosco hospitals.

In the Reggio Emilia area three people, two of them minors, suffered eye injuries from the explosion of firecrackers. There were numerous interventions due to arguments, illnesses, fires and damage, including a fire in a house and bins set on fire.

Southern Italy: a 16-year-old loses a hand in Foggiano

In Vieste, in the province of Foggia, a 16-year-old boy lost a hand while fiddling with a firecracker. He was rushed first to the local hospital and then to San Giovanni Rotondo, but the doctors were unable to save his limb. In the Daunian capital, the night was also marked by fires on balconies, trees and rubbish bins, as well as the attack on an ATM which was detonated using the “marmot” technique.

In Campania, in Aversa, a nine-year-old boy was hit in the hand by a stray bullet, suffering minor injuries.

Animals in difficulty: in Salerno a dog dies of fright

In Salerno a dog died from an illness caused by the terror of the barrels. The Torrione Eventi association, which had launched appeals in the previous days, denounces the lack of sensitivity towards animals and calls for greater controls.

Basilicata: no injuries, only brush fires

Basilicata is one of the few regions with no recorded injuries. The firefighters responded to around ten brush fires caused by the barrels. The first born of the year, Alessandro, was born in Lagonegro at 00.01.

Firefighters: 770 interventions in Italy, down compared to 2025

The national budget of the Fire Brigade includes 770 interventions, 112 less than last year. Emilia Romagna is the region with the highest number (114), followed by Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Campania and Tuscany. Umbria, Calabria and Basilicata are in the queue.

The authorities point out that many accidents are caused by illegal material or improper use of fireworks. State Police experts reiterate the importance of purchasing only certified products and avoiding homemade devices, which are often truly highly dangerous devices.
