“It’s like Ukraine now.” Mosca defends Di Battista

The Russian embassy attacks Italy for the risk of “Ukrainization of Italian politics and public life in general”. The stance comes after the episode that occurred on 22 December at the Federico II University of Naples, where the conference ‘Russophilia, Russophobia, truth’ was organized by the local section of the ANPI.

In the reconstruction of the embassy, which also finds space in the Tass, “a group of Italian public figures” allegedly suffered “harassment”. “Although the Embassy did not specify the names of the participants, the event sparked widespread discussion on local social networks,” according to Tass. Professor Angelo d’Orsi and former M5S deputy Alessandro Di Battista participated in the conference: according to Tass, “they were attacked by Ukrainian nationalists, assisted by Italian activists, including representatives of the +Europa party”. Videos released on social media show the presence of people at the event, intent on asking questions about the situation in Ukraine. Outside the room, tense scenes can be glimpsed.

Calenda: “Buffoni complain about peaceful protest”

These buffoons from the Russian Embassyrepresentatives of a fascist, imperialist and murderous regime, complain about the peaceful protest made to a group of their acolytes gathered by the National Pro Imperialist Association (ANPI), by Action militants and Matteo Hallissey”, writes Carlo Calendarleader of Action, on X. “You pay them and we contest them. Get over it.”

“‘A disturbing episode of harassment’: this is how the Russian embassy in Italy describes the flash mob I participated in at Federico II in Naples, organized by students, the Ukrainian community and activists from Ora!, +Europa, Radicali, Azione and Liberi Oltre”, he writes Matteo Hallisseypresident of +Europa and the radicals.

“After waiting for the end of Di Battista and D’Orsi’s speeches, I attempted to ask the professor D’Orsi a very simple question, to which he has not yet answered: what was he doing in Moscow two months ago applauding Putin at the ceremony for the 20th anniversary of Russia Today. For Moscow, this episode would be nothing more than the symptom of the very dangerous ‘Ukrainization’ of our country which, one aid shipment after another, is ending up resembling Kyiv more and more. Unfortunately, I don’t see the desire for freedom and democracy that drives the resistance of the Ukrainian people spreading in Italy”, he continues.

“If anything, I see the annoyance of some people who are nostalgic for questions that they don’t want to have to answer and who even go so far as to attack those who ask them. An annoyance that reminds me a lot of the attitude of a certain country. And it’s not Ukraine”, concludes Hallissey.

The embassy post

In the post published on Facebook, the Russian embassy expresses concern about the phenomenon of ‘Ukrainization’ and points the finger at Italian political leaders deemed irresponsible for tolerating such conduct. “On the Russian side, it has always been said that support unconditional to supporters of the neo-Nazi and terrorist regime in Kiev implied that the worst rituals and behaviors prevailing in Ukraine were transferred to Italy since 2014: cruelty, radicalism, intolerance, primordial nationalism, repression of dissent, xenophobia, et similia”, reads the post.

“All this – with the tacit consent and, in fact, with the complicity of the authorities – is inevitably leading to the ‘Ukrainisation’ of Italian politics and public life in general. The Naples episode demonstrated this in a particularly clear way. And it is not the first time, alas, in the last period”. In the post, reference is also made to the alleged death wishes that the Ukrainian president allegedly addressed to Vladimir Putin in his Christmas message: “And the death wishes included in the Christmas message of the President of the criminal and corrupt junta in Kiev are an eloquent warning about what ‘Ukrainization’ can lead to. We express our full solidarity with the Italian citizens who are today victims of the Ukrainian Nazis and the irresponsible Italian politicians who support them”, concludes the embassy.

In its report, in relation to the episode in Naples, Tass denounces “the organization of a real ambush… Several dozen individuals, defined as ‘listeners’, turned out to be Ukrainian nationalists, wearing T-shirts supporting Ukraine. The professor and the organizers of the lesson, promoted by the local section of the National Association of Italian Partisans, were allegedly subjected to insults. The Russian Embassy reiterated its full solidarity with the Italians who were allegedly victims of such actions, attributed to Ukrainian nationalists and Italian politicians deemed negligent in their duty of prevention”.

“Both Professor d’Orsi and Alessandro Di Battista are prominent public figures. They, together with numerous other personalities in the diplomatic, cultural and political fields, support the thesis of a ‘proxy war’ waged by the West against Russia through Ukraine. These personalities oppose the imposed Russophobia and the official political line of the Italian and European governments. Alessandro Di Battista recently published an e-book entitled “Russia is not my enemy”, concludes the agency.
