The union’s complaint: «From 9am to 2pm no planes departed, resulting in cancellations and hours-long delays. Passengers on seven flights, hundreds and hundreds of people, crowded the airport spaces waiting to know their fate. Assisting almost 700 people is unsustainable”
Bad weather and strong wind they crashed down Firenze in the Christmas morning causing – due to the intense gusts – flight delays and cancellations at Peretola airport.
There are hundreds of them the passengers who crowded the airport waiting for their flight, spending a good part of Christmas day there, according to reports l’Usb. «As often happens at Florence airport whenever there are adverse weather conditions – explains Lorenzo Robin Frosini, USB union delegate at Gh Toscana, one of the companies that operate under contract in the airport -, this morning from 9am to 2pm no planes departed, resulting in cancellations and hours-long delays. Passengers on seven flights, hundreds and hundreds of people, crowded the airport spaces waiting to know their fate. We, as a ground assistance service for passengers, try to give them support as required by the airlines and ENAC regulations, but assisting almost 700 people is unsustainable.”
«Toscana Aeroporti, i.e. the airport manager of the Florence and Pisa airports, divides millions of euros of profits between its members every year, but in the airports it manages there are numerous problems – continues Frosini – Especially in Florence, where scheduled flights continue to increase, but the structure remains the same as years ago: for today’s traffic it is totally inadequate. Not only the runway, but also the gates and the departures terminal are insufficient to offer an adequate service to users in the event of problems like today. And this happens weekly, not just at Christmas. Due to the desperation of users, and the frustration of those who work for what should be a public service, but which no longer has anything public about it.”
