Christmas snowfall in the Turin area_ where snow fell on 24 and 25 December

Christmas Eve reserved a nice surprise in the Turin area where snow fell starting from around 500 m above sea level.

At 8pm on Wednesday 24 December the snow arrived in Superga, on the Turin hill, but also in Revigliasco on the Moncalieri hill and at the Bric della Maddalena, above Turin, where around 8-10cm of white blanket settled.

“The magic of snow during Christmas night on the hill of Turin, a few km from the city centre. At the Bric della Maddalena, at 715m above sea level, 10 centimeters of snow were recorded at one o’clock, all falling on the evening of 24 December with a minimum temperature which dropped to almost -1°C. The snow on the ground on the hill is present from 430m above sea level, but the flakes reached up to 300m above sea level during the highest phase intense rainfall, touching the foothill neighborhoods of the city”, writes meteorologist Andrea Vuolo.

Christmas night under the snow also in Noasca and in Valle Soana where more than 30cm of fresh snow was recorded (in the photo the hamlet of Piamprato in Valprato Soana).

In the late morning today, 30 centimeters of fresh snow was recorded in Salza di Pinerolo in Val Germanasca at 1,200m above sea level.

Snow also on the slopes of Sestriere (2,035 m asl) and Cantoira (800 m asl).

The weather forecast from Arpa Piemonte

“Until this night, widespread precipitation, weak or moderate, with greater snow accumulations in the mountain and foothill areas of Turin and Cuneo and the hills of Cuneo and Asti. Snow level on average at 400-800 m, with higher values ​​to the north. General improvement in the weather from tomorrow morning”, they write from Arpa Piemonte.

Piedmont, yellow alert at Christmas: the areas involved

Arpa Piemonte has issued a yellow alert for snow and avalanches. On Thursday 25 December, five areas are on yellow alert: C – Valli Orco, Lanzo, lower Val Susa and Sangone (To); D – Upper Susa valley, Chisone, Pellice and Po (Cn-To); And Valli Varaita, Maira and Stura (Cn); F Valle Tanaro (Cn); M Cuneo Plain (Cn-To).

On Friday 26 December there will be four areas on yellow alert for avalanches: C – Valli Orco, Lanzo, lower Val Susa and Sangone (To); D – Upper Susa valley, Chisone, Pellice and Po (Cn-To); And Valli Varaita, Maira and Stura (Cn); F Valle Tanaro (Cn).
