“The Lombardy Region has communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs its willingness to welcome the young people injured during the night in the tragic accident that occurred in Crans Montana (Switzerland), making all the necessary skills and resources available”.
Already 47 dead
The Welfare Department of the Lombardy Region communicated this in a note. In fact, on New Year’s Eve, a fire broke out in the small municipality – among the most famous Swiss ski resorts – which has around 10 thousand residents in the Canton of Valais, Switzerland, at around 1,500 meters above sea level. The toll is very heavy because in the place in question there were dozens and dozens of people – perhaps hundreds – celebrating the new year. In a note the Farnesina announced that “based on the information provided by the Valais Cantonal Police, there would be approximately 47 dead and 100 injured”. The victims, we read, “are not identifiable due to the serious burns suffered”. The Italian ambassador to Switzerland and the Italian consul general in Geneva, continues the Foreign Ministry, “are going to Crans-Montana. The Farnesina has activated an operational unit in Rome with officials from the Crisis Unit and the Unit for the Protection of Italians Abroad”.
To date, about fifteen Italians remain missing.
The first three patients in the night
And the first patients involved in the fire will arrive in Italy in the evening: three compatriots who will be transferred to the Niguarda Large Burns center in Milan. The director of Cross 118, Andrea Nicolini, reported this to Rainews 24.
The “major emergencies” network has been activated
“The regional health system immediately activated the Maxi Emergencies Console of Areu – Regional Emergency Emergency Agency and the entire Lombardy hospital network. In consideration of the type of event, the major burns center of the Niguarda hospital in Milan was also alerted. While awaiting further feedback, the Lombardy Region expresses its deepest closeness to the families of the victims of the tragedy”, Pirellone continues.
