The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Lodi today advanced the archiving request of the investigation for incitement or assistance to Giovanna Pedretti’s suicidethe restaurateur from Sant’Angelo Lodigiano found dead last January 14th in the waters of the Lambro. The investigations conducted established that no one played a role in encouraging or assisting Pedretti’s suicide and that the online review that sparked the controversy was not authentic. The story dates back to last January: it all started from a negative review that appeared on Facebook, in which one customer complained about sitting next to gay and disabled people in Pedretti’s restaurant. The review was immediately deemed false, but it sparked a… media storm cwho put pressure on the restaurateur, who was later found lifeless.

Speaking to ANSA, Simona Callegari, lawyer for the Pedretti family, commented on the news as follows: “I don’t think the family will oppose the filing proposed by the Lodi Prosecutor’s Office” relating to the investigation. Callegari explained that Pedretti’s husband and daughter “were never in attack, but waiting for everything to be clarified. We know that the Lodi Prosecutor’s Office worked in a meticulous and careful manner. We will evaluate however, definitively what to do after calmly analyzing the documents. To date there is no will to oppose and ask for further investigations. We will see once we have read everything in detail: there is no rush,” concluded Callegari, outlining the family’s position.

The day before his death, Pedretti was interviewed in the barracks as a person informed of the facts, an event that had added further pressure to the woman. This case had aroused great media interest, particularly after well-known names such as that of the journalist Selvaggia Lucarelli had been associated with the spread of the controversy relating to the false review, thus fueling public indignation. On the day of her funeral, the community of Sant’Angelo Lodigiano had protested against media fury, displaying a banner critical of the press and television. The final decision on the case now rests with the preliminary investigation judge, who will evaluate the request for dismissal and any opposition.
