Possible toxic fumes. For this reason, the Barberini hotel in via Rasella 3, in the center of Rome, was evacuated. According to initial reports, the chlorine in the spa on the lower floor of the hotel could be to blame. At the moment there are 8 people poisoned. Five of these (of which two with code red) were transported to hospital, while 3, with mild symptoms, refused to go to the emergency room. None of them appear to be in life-threatening condition. On site, the firefighters and the local police made the area and the traffic in the area safe: a stretch of via delle Quattro Fontane and via Rasella were closed.

Intoxication

According to the firefighters’ initial reconstructions, the fumes could be traced back to the chlorine found in the technical room serving the spa on the lower floor of the hotel. To allow for more accurate control, all people inside the structure were evacuated. The 8 intoxicated people were rescued and 5 of them were transported to hospital with breathing difficulties due to chlorine inhalation. Three people with mild symptoms, however, refused to go to the emergency room.

The most serious, a 60-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, were taken to the health workers under code red, but their lives were not in danger. Among them there were employees of the hotel facility.
