“I was insulted after sharing my personal experience. They told me: “Take a chamomile tea before coming to the Chamber”, “Why do you come to tell us about it here?”. According to these parliamentarians, a woman should not say that she had an abortion but he should be ashamed of it, stay quiet and meditate on her guilt. I, as I said in the Chamber, I don’t feel guilty and I’m not ashamedand with me perhaps the vast majority of women who have decided to resort to voluntary termination of pregnancy, as they have testified to me in recent days”. These are the words spoken into the microphones of One, Nobody, 100Milan (Radio24) by the deputy of M5s Gilda Sportiellowho revealed in the Chamber that she had an abortion 14 years ago and who harshly attacked the right for having voted for the amendment to the Pnrr legislative decree which allows Pro Life to man the clinics when a woman decides to have an abortion.

The parliamentarian comments on the journalist’s controversial words Crowned Bocciapromoted to deputy director of Tg1 after the settlement of Meloni governmentthan in transmission What will be Of Serena Bortone he defined abortion “a crime and not a right”: “I absolutely don’t feel like the perpetrator of a crime. This reasoning clearly reveals what is behind the amendment of Brothers of Italy to the legislative decree Pnrr. Here, in reality, those who think that the presence of anti-abortionists inside the counseling centers is in support of women are profoundly mistaken, because in other countries where they have even legislated to keep anti-abortionists away from places where termination of pregnancy is accepted – continues – they speak of these presences as of organized harassmentbecause a woman who goes to a counseling center must have the help she asks for. The clinic is a public and secular place where there are many multidisciplinary professionals. And this is what women deserve: to be assisted by a professional, certainly not to encounter ideologically oriented private associations that support this narrative of “guilt”, according to which anyone who has an abortion is a murderer and commits a crime. That’s not the case at all.”

And he adds: “It is not true that what they have foreseen with this amendment, namely the entry of private anti-abortion associations into public clinics, is already written in law 194, also because even a child would understand that if it had already been foreseen by law , there would have been no need to make another one. But I actually asked this very question in the Chamber: I asked the government to commit through an act stating that these associations will not exist because they undermine the protection of the right to voluntary termination of pregnancy which must be guaranteed in clinics. And I was told noso they clearly said that they want anti-abortion associations in the clinics.”

Sportiello finally responds to the host Alessandro Milan on the famous photo that showed her breastfeeding her baby in the Chamber last year: “This is proof of the fact that we need to stop labeling women based on their choices and dividing them into good and bad, mothers and non-mothers. I chose to have an abortion 14 years ago and when I wanted to be a mother, I became one. The image of me breastfeeding in the Chamber is simply that of a mother returning to work. Today there are many more women than me who make incredible sacrifices to be able to continue breastfeeding and reconcile returning to work with the role of parent.”
