At Mimit, first meeting with Beko Europe, a newco born from the Whirlpool-Arçelik agreement

Urso: valorising national production

The Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Ursus met Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO Beko, Ragıp Balcıoğlu, CEO Beko Europe, and Fabio Colombo VP HR Beko Europe at Palazzo Piacentini.

The meeting takes place after the recent green light from the European and British Antitrust to the agreement between Whirlpool and Arçelik reached in January 2023 which led to the birth of a new company on 2 April 2024: Beko Europeheld 75% by Ardutch BV (Dutch holding controlled by Arçelik) and 25% by Whirpool EMEA Holdings LLC.

The company has indicated its intention to review all aspects of its European business share industrial plans with the ministryi for a Europe as soon as it is ready and to start a discussion with the social partners in the near future. Mimit, for his part, highlighted the need to enhance national production and gave willingness to support the next development steps.

The industrial plan must be in line with the Prime Ministerial Decree of 1 May 2023 with which the government used the Golden Power by binding the notifying companies “to implement any commitment aimed at avoiding overlapping production between the Italian and European plants involved which could give rise to the need for a downsizing of national production, with consequent effects on employment levels“.
