Italian black metallers DARKEND reveal the details of their new album today “Viaticum”out on June 14, 2024 For Time To Kill Records.

“The Light of Awareness shines on an ancient form of recurring spiritual plague that contaminates and blinds the inner world, reflecting like a fatal disease on every form even touched upon in the external world. Yet, once Enlightened, what previously acted as a corruptive epidemic now changes his flesh and becomes an unstoppable Current of Elevating Energy.
‘An Ancient Plague Has Silently Worn Our Garments As Its Throne”’ is the figurative representation of this process: an embrace between suffocating darkness and its own Transcendence, fused and released in a hypnotic glow of disembodied tension. The lyrics and vocal lines of the song were written by Animæ, while the main riff is one of Nothingness’ last contributions to the heart of the band; the guitar solos and the various melodic layers are instead the work of the new guitarist Acamar and act as an ideal presentation.
With a circle that closes and a new path that opens, Darkend want to dedicate this first single from the new album ‘Viaticum’ to Nothingness, to the memory of the beautiful moments we spent together and to its legacy.”
In the DARKEND the more ritual and spiritual side of black metal finds its voice.
Captained by Animae (on several occasions also guest vocalist for GAAHL’S WYRD), the band begins by offering black metal with strong symphonic and orchestral hues. This will be the raw material that they will tear apart and shape over time, drawing from heavy metal, ambient and progressive rock to create an artistic form that immerses and viscerally involves the listener in their sea of sound.
After making themselves noticed thanks to three European tours with CRADLE OF FILTH, ROTTING CHRIST, SAMAEL, MELECHESH & KEEP OF KALESSIN, DARKEND have the privilege of collaborating with some of the most well-known artists on the scene: Attila Csihar (MAYHEM), Niklas Kvarforth (SHINING) and Sakis Tolis (ROTTING CHRIST) lend their voices to “The Canticle Of Shadows” (2016, Non Serviam Records ), while WARDRUNA’s Lindy-Fay Hella guested on “Spiritual Resonance” (2019, Dark Essence Records).
After participating in the iconic Norwegian MIDGARDSBLOT FEST 2022 (with WARDRUNA, HELIUNG & ROTTING CHRIST among others) the band begins recording their fifth full length “Viaticum” and cultivates live activity both in Italy and abroad.
