The singer from Ronciglione has been one of the best discoveries of talent shows in recent years: not only did Marco Mengoni win his edition of the X Factor in 2009, but he also won the Sanremo Festival in 2013 and 2023, respectively with L’essenziale, a marvelous piece which is still widely played on local radio, and Due vite, presented at the event and which won over everyone.

Mengoni is a rare talent, capable of exciting listeners thanks to his innate ability to involve with his powerful voice obviously, but also thanks to the great artistic sensitivity he presents in each of his pieces. Born in 1988, he began to be interested in music as a child and at 14 he began attending a singing school.

Two years later he began performing as a soloist, presenting covers and unreleased pieces he wrote, also presenting the cover of Anastacia’s I’m Outta Love. Just over 18, he moved to Rome, and while studying at university, he also worked as a sound engineer and programmer in some recording studios. 2009 marks the turning point: Marco is chosen by Morgan as a contestant on the X Factor in the 16-24 age section, and it is he who wins the talent show.

The piece that consecrated him was Dove si vola, which reached first position in the Top singles, something that had never happened for a participant in a television programme.

Since then, Mengoni’s career has been on the rise: not only has he taken part in some editions of the Sanremo Festival, but he has become a darling of the public, and in the end, on the Ariston stage he managed to become the winner thanks to the beautiful piece L’essenziale in 2013. Not only that, but the Lazio artist managed to do an encore ten years later, with Due vite, a song that also placed fourth in the Eurovision song contest.

Much loved by the public not only for his skill, Mengoni is also much loved for his friendly and easy-going character, which he has shown on several occasions. The singer recently ran into another crowd favourite, while in New York: it’s none other than Roberto Bolle, star of La Scala in Milan and dancer considered among the best in the world. The two took the opportunity to take a selfie while they were on the benches in Central Park, and the image quickly went viral. And how could it not be otherwise?
