The friendship with Max Pezzali
There is a lot of Max Pezzali in this show and in their common dreams. «Apart from laughing and singing there will also be a tribute to Bon Jovi. In fact, Max and I, boys from Pavia, felt when faced with the Milanese empire what we imagined Jon Bon Jovi or Bruce Springsteen, both originally from New Jersey, might have felt when faced with the empire of Manhattan in New York. At the time there was the American dream. Listening to ballads like Never say goodbye led us to pop and to writing Come mai imagining that Bon Jovi could have written it. But also With a deca or The years listening to Springsteen.”
Mauro and Max were chasing a dream. “We had the chance to escape thanks to music and Hollywood films.” But Mauro’s dream then continued: «When we were writing “The Years” I was thinking about going to Paris the next day at Fashion Week to meet Brandy. So it was over. I knew it was a beautiful song, but in my head I wanted another story, “another place and another bar…” and my intellectual honesty prevented me from staying there. Maybe I was looking for the American dream and this girl I had seen on the pages of fashion magazines.”
A girl he has never met still reiterates to the Libero newspaper: «No. I met her friends, but I never went out with her. Oh well, I chased her for two weeks. In short, it hasn’t become a catchphrase…”.
The reunion
Will Mauro and Max get back together? An 883 reunion maybe after the theater show? The answer leaves a glimmer open: «What I can tell you and what I’m sure of is that Max and I have never really worked together. We spent afternoons writing three albums, but it was before the success, so it was a way to pass the time. As soon as it became a job, we separated. There are no friendship problems. We have never talked about making a new piece together. It could overflow, but it should happen, it should come by itself. I don’t think it could be… a normal job.”
