“I was afraid to leave the house.” The touching story about bullying
Descriptive text here

Renato Zero was a guest on the show What’s the weather like, on the Nine. The singer answered the host’s questions and talked about his career, his friendship with Ornella Vanoni and also the wounds of the past. The artist said he was bullied and still today he bears the marks of those days when he was a boy.

The stage, what a thrill

On the emotion of the stage the artist says: «Like the first time… I would like to point out how my legs are shaking… Losing the emotion for an artist means that perhaps the time has come to leave the stage, but as long as these legs are shaking, I I’m staying here!

The magic of life

The singer becomes “romantic” about life: “I think it’s a magic that is renewed every day but in different forms and movements, and how we welcome it is also formidable. Sometimes perhaps we find ourselves in difficulty with personal relationships, with the world, and we always give life this responsibility for having decided to make us suffer, to penalize us with certain shortcomings or with certain implications which evidently cause us discomfort and a certain apprehension for the future. I say that the beauty of life lies precisely in the fact that it is never the same and I recommend everyone to take this into consideration. It tests us, sometimes it tends to stimulate our wonders, our surprises and even our disappointment when evidently our exercise of serving it is not always impeccable. Instead of blaming this poor life: they invented the mirror, which is amazing stuff! Only in front of the mirror can we finally allow ourselves the luxury of telling the truth.”

«I don’t dress like you»

Ghosts from the past. Zero talks about the bullying experienced: «There was a period when I was afraid to leave the house. If I had made it to the 93 bus stop unharmed, I would have won a war. I am discouraged by the fact that although the times are ripe and have changed, bullying and these cruel and bitchy forms of certain people still have free reign and are still practiced. On the other hand, I won this confrontation with people simply by facing the inquisitor: I went back and asked him ‘did I do something bad to you?’ What could have made you angry with me, just for the fact that maybe I don’t dress like you?’ This attitude of mine put them in such difficulty with each other that they left. Slowly the word had spread that I had courage and in those situations, and in that population, having courage was destabilizing for them ‘this is what’s there’.”
