The release date of the next film in the saga has been revealed

Earlier this week, Fast and Furious 11 received a major production update when star Tyrese Gibson revealed that the resumed of the next chapter of the Fast saga will begin atbeginning of 2025.

Now the director Louis Leterrier not only confirms Gibson’s comments, but also shares the date fans can expect the film to hit theaters. During a panel at CCXP México, Leterrier revealed that the film will be released in 2026: “Filming will take place early next year and it will be released in 2026, exactly the day on which the 25th anniversary of its release occurs of the first film“.

The first film, Fast and Furious, was released on June 22, 2001, and this date is a Thursday in 2026 which could work as a release date. However, Universal Pictures has not confirmed a specific date at this time, and since production on the film has yet to begin, anything could happen. That said, a June 2026 debut certainly seems possible, if not likely. Leterrier also said that fans should keep an eye on Gibson’s social mediastating that “Tyrese is always right. Look at his Instagram!“, confirming that filming is scheduled to begin in early 2025.

What will Fast and Furious 11 be about?

At the moment we don’t know what the last chapter of the Fast saga will specifically deal with, even if Leterrier has already said that he has “big hopes” for the direction the story will take. Some time ago, however, the director anticipated that Jason Momoa’s character will have an interesting evolution.

Let’s see what happens“Leterrier told The Hollywood Reporter.”Going back to every other franchise in the world – except Lord of the Rings, where they had the books and knew when to stop – you don’t work on the next movie. You can have high hopes for what’s to come, but you have to give your all to the film you’re working on. So, I will give my best in this and we’ll see what happens“.

During the panel the director offered some more details, saying that history will come full circle with a return to Los Angeles that will bring the franchise home, in a sense, at last: “That’s what we want to do. We want to bring him home and tell a great journey“.
