Ten films, ten stories – at times – extremely different from each other. The franchise of The Planet of the Apeswhich started with the progenitor in 1968, boasts a plethora of films that would rival the most famous Hollywood sagas, and it doesn’t seem to want to stop there.
Well, the latest Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes should give rise to a new, yet another, trilogy of films belonging to the saga based on the novel by Pierre Boulle. The trilogy starring the rise of Caesar saw the release of the three films every three years, from the first in 2011 to the second in 2014 up to the last, released in 2017. A period of time that could therefore separate the last Wes Ball effort from his next, which by doing so could be released in 2027. And the director himself, in a recent interview with ComicBook, declared how long we will have to wait before seeing a sequel to Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, indirectly confirming the start of a new trilogy: “It’ll take what it takes“, thundered Ball, who specified that “Since this franchise is very important, we will work to ensure that it is done as well as we did with this last film. We’ll take our time“. In short, no rush for the director, who rightly wants to take the time necessary to work on the film not before the screenplay is completed.
“I don’t want to start production when the script isn’t ready yet“, underlined Wes Ball, making the matter worse modus operandi of Hollywood, in which often we put the proverbial cart before the horse to maintain the rhythms of show business: “Nothing good would come of it, I’ve had to do that in the past. Avoiding it would save a lot of money“.
Finally, returning to the continuation of the saga: “At the end of this film the doors have opened which, hopefully, they will reveal a larger world that we can explore in the next movie, with drama, conflict, that kind of thing“. Wes then concluded with a joke about the titles of the Planet of the Apes saga, which we talked about extensively in our analysis: “How many words can appear before ‘of the planet of the apes’ in the title? From 19 to 70!“
