Let’s prepare to enter the Matrix again. After rumors, wishes, and a lot of nostalgia, it all seems true: the fifth chapter of the Lilly and Lana Wachowski saga will arrive, and, like the previous installments, it will be produced by Warner Bros. The announcement was made by the major’s President of Production, Jesse Ehrman, also revealing the name of the first director candidate for the operation: Drew Goddard.
«Drew brought us a new idea, and we all believe that it would be a fantastic way to both continue the world of the Matrix, but also pay homage to the work that Lilly and Lana began 25 years ago. A project that will be very personal, everything will start from Drew’s love for the story and the characters, and from reading his stories. Everyone at Warner Bros. Discovery is excited about this new adventure.”
Matrix 5, therefore, would be the first not to have the Wachowski sisters as directors, even if Lana should cover the role of Executive Producer. Goddard commented: «It is no exaggeration to say that the Matrix films changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly are exquisite artists, and their work inspires me every day. To say I’m grateful to have the opportunity to create stories within their world is really, really an understatement.”
There are still no further details on the plot or on the formation of the possible cast. In short, as difficult as it would be to imagine the Matrix without Neo (read: Keanu Reeves), we know that there will only be surprises. Let’s keep listening.
