In 2020 the tragic and premature death of Chadwick Boseman shocked the world of cinema. The fame of Boseman, who had already had the opportunity to demonstrate his talent by tackling various roles, was consolidated with that of T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When Black Panther 2, of which you can find our review here, arrived at the cinema in 2022 Chadwick Boseman had already passed away for two years, but the development of the Black Panther sequel was already well underway before the death of its protagonist. Until now, details on the plot of Wakanda Forever, as it was conceived before Boseman’s death, were very few but now the director Ryan Coogler revealed what they were original plans.
Black Panther 2 is a film that has the theme of the mourning after the death of King T’Challa but in the original script a good part of the plot should have revolved around the relationship between T’Challa and his father. “An important part of the script was linked to something called the Ritual of the Eight – said Ryan Coogler, guest of the Happy Sad Confused podcast – When a prince turns 8 he must spend 8 days in the forest with his father and do everything his father asks of him. In those 8 days the prince can ask his father any question and the father must answer him and it is precisely during the 8 days that Namor prepares his attack”.
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever an important part of the story would therefore have concerned this ritual and the need to break it to face the attack of Namor which, in turn, would have had a different storyline. “It was crazy – added Coogler – and Chadwick would have been phenomenalbut unfortunately that’s how life goes.” For more content, find out here when Black Panther 3 should be released.
