From the adventure of 883 to the new theater project. Mauro Repetto talks about himself on the pages of Repubblica on the eve of the tour The Search for Spider-Man – The Story of the 883a curious biography-show of the duo set in the Middle Ages with holograms created thanks to the Artificial Intelligence of Max Pezzali, Claudio Cecchetto and others.

Repetto talks about his relationship with Pezzali, explaining:

“We will never be colleagues, we are classmates. We talked about the show, but very generally. We just can’t have serious conversations. I showed him a rehearsal with a girl trampling me on stage. We laughed a lot, it’s our indissoluble spirit.”

A bond, the one between the two founders of 883, which has always been strong.

“We have a very special relationship: we never talk about work, we don’t call each other for Christmas greetings, but we are very close. The only time I was a bit of an asshole to him was in a hotel in Castrocaro. We went up to the rooms with some dancers. At a certain point I }); heard noise and shouted ‘don’t make a mess’. He went into the bathtub with the girl. Years later I apologized and he told me: ‘Eh, in fact the tanks in Castrocaro are shit'”.

Speaking of the rare occasions of tension with Pezzali, Repetto recalls an episode during the recording of Don’t beat me up:

“He wanted me to sing differently, I pulled the headphones on the mixer and he told me: ‘You don’t do it like that’. This is the best that has happened to us, but we have always remained classmates.”

The artist reveals that some 883 songs were initially designed for Massimo Ranieri.

“They commissioned some pieces for Ranieri, but who knows if he ever heard them. They suddenly called us in Genoa, in Savona, ‘bring us a piece’. I once crashed on the highway. But Cecchetto, a marketing genius, was needed for our success. For the rest, an error of evaluation can happen.”

On the reason for saying goodbye to the 883, Repetto recalls:

“I had really wanted to go to America since I was a child: my grandmother told me the stories of the great actresses, Lauren Bacall, Marilyn, Grace Kelly. I wanted to go to Los Angeles, write, make films, theater. What we had done with the 883s was beautiful, but we had done it. I had the American Dream.”
