Modica, D’Antona on 2022 financial statement

Modica – Not only council questions for the municipal administration of Modica, both from the seats of the opposition and from the ranks of the majority itself, as we have reported several times. But also a political opposition that directly affects the economic and financial operations of the Council. A task that Vito D’Antona of Sinistra Italiana Modica has recently taken on repeatedly. After the previous observations on the past municipal budgets, now D’Antona puts the 2022 financial statement recently approved by the council under the magnifying glass to arrive in the chamber. These are the considerations of the exponent of Sinistra Italiana.

“The Municipal Administration of Modica, more than two years after the deadline and with a commissionership in place, has approved the proposed 2022 financial statement to be submitted to the City Council. The most significant data in the budget, as formulated by the City Council, represent a financial situation that is much more serious than that of the 2021 financial statement. In fact, the administrative deficit at the end of 2022 was equal to over 117 million euros, thus being higher than that of the end of 2021 by over 36 million euros; over one hundred million in debts contracted in recent years with the State, of which 92 million still to be repaid in the coming years; an amount of uncollected credits for approximately 179 million euros, of which 120 million considered difficult to collect.

And again, ongoing legal disputes for approximately 6 million euros; another 6 million euros of off-balance sheet debts ascertained but not yet recognized at the end of 2022; a debt of 4 million euros needed to cover Spm’s losses and over 2 million euros to be paid to Multiservizi; average payment times to suppliers exceeding seven months, when the law requires payment within 30 days. A worrying picture that originated in previous years which, if confirmed in subsequent years, could make it more difficult to guarantee essential services to citizens. We reiterate once again that a turning point is needed that puts the pursuit of financial recovery at the center of political and administrative action”. (da.di.)
