From July 12 to September 8, 2024, the SACCA Gallery in Modica presents “Visioni fuori rotta”, a solo exhibition by the artist Giorgio Distefano (Ragusa 1972, lives and works in Florence). The vernissage is scheduled for Friday, July 12 at 7:30 pm in the presence of the artist.
As the curator of the exhibition, Giovanni Scucces, writes, “borders, paths, routes, guides are all elements that can favor our approach to the world and to ourselves, but at the same time they can also limit us and cage us within predefined schemes that in fact prevent us from going beyond. In life we should keep these traces in mind, remembering however that every now and then it can be profitable to go beyond the preconceived”.
This is a bit what happens in the works of Giorgio Distefano. The artist, in fact, usually uses paper patterns as supports for his works, paper models used in tailoring to create the various parts of a garment. They work as guidelines to trace on fabric and then cut the individual parts of fabric that will later be assembled to form the finished garment.
Giorgio Distefano studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. He has held several solo exhibitions in galleries and public spaces, in Italy and abroad, including “Tracce Mediterranee”, curated by the Italian Cultural Institute in Bratislava, currently on show at the Galleria Civica in Zilina in Slovakia; and then at the Zit-Dim Art Space in Tainan in Taiwan; at the Phoenix Ancient City Museum in Fenghuang, Hunan – China; at the European Parliament in Brussels in Belgium; at the Agora|Z in Palazzo Strozzi in Florence.
