In conjunction with the traditional feast of Saint Peter and Paul, during which many tourists from the Capital flock to the island of Ponza, the Guardia di Finanza military have intensified controls, with particular attention to the phenomenon of drug dealing. The anti-drug dogs Gingo and Jessy, canine units of the Formia group, have landed on the island.

The tight controls were carried out by the financial police of the Ponza lieutenancy and the naval operational section as well as by the Atpi contingent of the Formia group and were concentrated at the tourist landing points and in the vicinity of clubs and nightlife spots in Ponza, which are crowded during this holiday period. During the activity, ten individuals aged between 17 and 36 were reported for possession of drugs for personal use to the competent prefectures (eight to that of Rome, one to Latina and one to Livorno). A man was instead reported to the judicial authorities of Cassino because, from a personal search, it emerged that, inside his backpack, he had hidden 30 grams of drugs divided into packages, ready to be sold. The search allowed the seizure of 60 grams of hashish and 3 of cocaine.

The operation on the island of Ponza is part of a broader daily monitoring program of areas considered at risk, in which continuous checks were carried out on passengers arriving and departing from the Pontine tourist resort and on the many young people who populate the city streets of the island during this period.
