The 50th edition of the Social Weeks of Catholics in Italya regular event of the Italian Church which this year will focus on the theme “At the heart of democracy”.
The Association of Italian Catholic Guides and Scouts – Agesci will be present with its own delegation at the days, bringing its contribution as a youth educational reality, which bases its method on the theme of democracy and active citizenship.
Educate for responsible and active citizenship
Through the education of each guide and scout in their own territory, but with a broad view of international brotherhood, in fact,Scouting leads to choices and experiences of service to others, through daily actions that are fundamental to experimenting with methods of democratic participation and growth towardsa responsible and active citizenship.
Every citizen, to strengthen their participation, can and must act to contribute to change, by getting personally involved in their own territory and in alliance with others, and this is what scouting aims to do from an early age.
Roberta Vincini and Francesco Scoppola, presidents of the National Committee of Agesci, declare: «Today is a complex time, with a pressing rhythm, where fragilities are many and consistent, but this brings us back as Christians to set out and listen. The Social Weeks give us the opportunity to reflect and share, networking, reiterating the importance ofability to be there, to take charge, to do one’s part, together.”
And they add: «We can make our young people live fundamental experiences in the education of good citizens, participating and contributing to the change according to a project that is built in compliance with democratic rules, accepting the comparison with the ideas of others with the perspective that “the true way to be happy is to bring happiness to others, trying to leave this world a little better than you found it”».
