A very serious accident at work occurred in Meina, in the province of Novara, in the Vicolo Pozzo area.

A 56-year-old worker from Valtellina lost his life when he was crushed by machinery while he was working on a railway construction site. Despite the timely assistance of 118 personnel, unfortunately there was nothing that could be done for the man.

The worker was part of a contractor that is carrying out work on behalf of RFI, on the Milan-Domodossola line, whose rail traffic had already been interrupted since June for work to adapt the tracks to modern freight trains.

As far as we know, the accident occurred inside the construction site area. The Polfer arrived on site to carry out the necessary investigations.

In a note, the FS Group Company: “Expresses its condolences and closeness to the family of the worker of a contractor, who died on a work area along the Milan-Domodossola railway line, closed to traffic since June 9 for infrastructure work”.

“The dynamics of what happened are being examined by the competent authorities to whom RFI is offering the widest collaboration – the note continues – checks are also underway by RFI”.
