“Today is not my victory but that of commitment and seriousness”. Thus Marco Castoldi, aka Morgancommented on the acquittal in the proceedings against him for aggravated defamation against his former friend and colleague Bugo. The court of Imperia acquitted the Milanese singer-songwriter because the fact does not constitute a crime. The judges ruled in favor of Morgan, who had been taken to court by Cristian Bugatti immediately after the famous fight that took place on the stage of the Ariston theater during the Sanremo 2020 festival.

“We are very satisfied with the result. Marco was acquitted because the fact does not constitute a crime”, Morgan’s lawyers – Rossella Gallo and Leonardo Cammarata – commented to the press agency Adnkronos immediately after the acquittal. The criminal proceedings had been opened following Bugo’s complaint for defamation on a series of interviews given by Marco Castoldi following the now famous events of four years ago and the prosecutor had requested a sentence of one year and six months.
I judges of the court of Imperia have instead established that the statements made by Morgan were not defamatory but simple artistic criticisms. The singer-songwriter’s lawyer, Rossella Gallo, explained this: “Morgan’s statements were considered by the judge as criticisms in the artistic musical field for the way in which Bugatti had realized the cover evening. Bugatti instead wanted to use this process to bring up the topic of the change of verses and bring up the Bugo – Morgan case for his own promotion, given that he released the album on March 15 and spoke on various broadcasts also bringing up the Imperia trial“.

Added to the lawyers’ satisfaction was Morgan’s happiness for the positive outcome of the trial that had him stuck. In the chat with journalists – where Marco Castoldi has often expressed himself in recent months – Morgan expressed all his satisfaction for the acquittal: “Today is not my victory but that of commitment and seriousness.
Both because the lawyers have studied deeply and thoroughly and have worked with dedication, and because trust has been given to the truthand it triumphed, as Cioran teaches: truth ultimately always triumphs“. No comment, however, has yet arrived from Cristian Bugatti, aka Bugo.
