Yesterday evening, on the royal staircase of the Royal Palace of Caserta, the life of a worker from an external company was tragically lost while he was busy setting up one of the events of the “CAMPANIA BEER EXPO” promoted by the Campania Region and organized by the company Knowledge for Business.
After repeatedly walking up the 117 steps of the staircase at high temperatures, the worker suffered a cardiac arrest. Attempts to revive him on site by the 118 medical staff were unsuccessful, and they sadly had to certify his death. Although the security staff of the Reggia, still shocked and exhausted, promptly informed the organizers, they decided to continue with the program of activities, which included a beer tasting with a pairing of dishes.

We stigmatize the behavior of the organizers and the administration of the Reggia and the Campania Region itself as a sponsor of the event, who did not immediately suspend the initiative. Only at the end of the banquet did a post of a few lines from the beer expo communicate the death of the worker. The cynicism and the exclusive interest in the success of the event prevented us from acknowledging that hours before, yet another death at work had occurred.
Today, according to the program, the promotional activities of the BEER EXPO will continue, as if the death of a worker were an annoying embarrassment to be quickly forgotten, like all those recurring stories of deaths at work to be buried or downgraded to tragic fatalities.
The USB structure present at the Royal Palace of Caserta is close to the mourning of the relatives, asks the Administration and its director, Tiziana Maffei, and the organizers of the Expo to immediately suspend the event.
In the meantime, let’s relaunch the general mobilization to quickly introduce into our penal system the “crime of Murder at Work”, the only instrument to put a firm STOP to the continuous slaughter of workers.
