Mourning in Pistoia football for the passing of Communard Nicholas, former footballer and coach, who passed away during the night at the age of 77. For him, who was born in Uzzano in 1946, a fatal illness while he was in hospital. In his career as a footballer, playing as a defender, he wrote memorable pages of history especially with the shirt of Cagliariof which he was one of the protagonists in the 1969/70 season, that of the historic championship. After taking his first steps in the Montecatini youth team, Niccolai embraced the Sardinian cause in 1964, remaining in the red and blue until 1976, including a stint with the Chicago Mustangs, collecting over 200 appearances in total.

Comunardo had become famous for his own goals. Six in total in his career, although more than the number itself he became famous for the spectacular nature of his own goals. His CV also included the Second place at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico with the Italian jersey, with one token to his name during the World Championship and three in total with the blue jersey. After retiring he was the coach of various Italian youth teams as well as an observer for them. The Niccolai family is also very well known in the city for the sons Stefano and Antoniothe latter coach with experience also in Serie C.
