Investigations that led to the seizure of a total of approximately 100 kg of hashish and 1 kg of cocaine

The press conference held this morning at 10:30 at the Provincial Carabinieri Command of L’Aquila described in detail the dynamics of the major anti-drug blitz that led to the dismantling of an international organization, which also included the city of Teramo.

In particular, the 14 precautionary measures announced have been carried out and there are 10 people in prison, 2 under house arrest and 2 required to report to the PG, decisions issued by the GIP of the Courts of L’Aquila and Teramo, at the request respectively of the DDA of L’Aquila and the Ordinary Prosecutor’s Office of Teramo.

The investigative activity, launched in December 2021 by the A/C Section of L’Aquila and conducted with numerous and demanding technical and dynamic activities, was developed, in coordination with the DCSA, also through the collaboration of EUROJUST and EUROPOL, as well as with the support of the @ON Network, led by the Italian DIA, funded by the EU Commission.

The investigation has allowed us to document the operations in Abruzzo of a criminal organization – independent from mafia-type organized crime contexts – formed by Italian, Spanish, Argentine and Colombian citizens, dedicated to the trafficking, including international, of narcotic substances such as hashish and cocaine. The narcotic substances, supplied in Spain by some suspects resident in the Iberian country, were transported, by road, to Italy by couriers who hid them inside trucks available to the organization, to then be stored in Abruzzo for the benefit of the drug dealing centers of Abruzzo and Marche. The criminal association with a top leadership, trusted men and associates on the National Territory and abroad, could count on points of reference in Spain and Germany.

During the long investigation period, the investigators carried out several seizures, for a total of approximately 100 kg of hashish and 1 kg of cocaine, managing to reconstruct the various roles of the associates.

In addition to the arrests, several searches were carried out on other suspects, residing in Spain.

It should be noted that the proceedings are now in the investigation phase and the suspects, drawn from a precautionary measure and recipients of information of guarantee, are to be considered not guilty until a conviction has become irrevocable and that their responsibility will be examined by the competent judge.
