Scams are becoming increasingly digital, especially to the detriment of the elderly. In recent days, a new frontier of deception has emerged among the complaints reported to the Pesaro police force, namely the QR Code trick. The criminals send fake SMS or WAPP messages with the bank credentials hoping that the unfortunate person will fall for it, then they call the victim pretending to be financial operators of the credit institution explaining that an anomalous connection has been found on the bank account. At this point they send with QR Code to carry out a security operation, but once the QR Code has been framed, the criminals can gain access to the current account and launder the money present, with multiple withdrawals of several thousand euros.

Thanks to the reports, the gang of scammers was identified, they are four young people from Torre del Greco and a Pesaro man between 20 and 27 years old, all accused of aggravated fraud. Their victims are mostly from Pesaro, in particular pensioners, from 60 years old and up and all defrauded with the same method. So much so that they managed to extort over 40,000 euros in total in various transactions on several occasions. Now the criminals will have to answer for it in front of the Judge.
