Florence and Venice linked in the name of peace and art. From today until July 7th, a series of initiatives are scheduled between the two cities, including performances and an exhibition. The choice of locations, it was explained during a press conference at Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence, is linked to the special relationship between the two cities, considering that they are both ancient Republics and among the most important registered among the UNESCO sites.

The performance at Villa La Ferdinanda

On July 2nd at Medici Villa La Ferdinanda in Artimino the performance is scheduled which will see the concert by maestro Andrea Ceccomori on the flute and Maria Chiara Fiorucci on the harp. On July 5th, in the City Council Hall of Venice, there will be a conference related to the Florence-Venice union, while the following day, again in Venice, there will be the inauguration of the personal exhibition of the Florentine artist Elisabetta Rogai entitled ‘Two lions for two Republics’.

The exhibition can be seen at ‘Ca’ Sagredo, a palace-museum on the Grand Canal, from 7 July to 11 August: the symbols chosen to represent the initiative are two lions that recall the Lion of San Marco and the Marzocco of Florence.

The author of the project and vice-president of Ars Pace Monica Baldi highlighted that in Florence and Venice “they meetor places of extraordinary beauty which help to reflect on the importance of culture, as a platform for peace and a cornerstone of cultural diplomacy, taking into account its real soft power which allows for the establishment of lasting and structured international relations”.

According to Stefano Casciu, regional director of the national museums of Tuscany, “the Medici Villas they can once again represent a driving force for high-level cultural opportunities and for innovative economic development”. Michele Zuin, Councillor for Budget and Participated Companies of the Municipality of Venice, highlighted the importance of the economic part “in keeping alive this enormous artistic heritage that links the two cities”.
