We are in the middle of summer and while many go to the seaside and others to the mountains, some also look for events and festivals where they can eat “typical foods of some areas”. This is the ideal time to organize holidays and weekends, outdoor picnics, to discover nearby places and participate in summer festivals and events. Here are some festivals that will be held in Lombardy:

  1. Festival of the Bigul in the torc in San Martino all’Argine near Mantua (5-7 July 2024), dedicated to a fresh Venetian pasta with various sauces.
  2. Fried Dumpling Festival in Bisuschio near Varese (12 – 14 July 2024), with Modena fried dumplings, Fassona hamburgers and other typical dishes.
  3. Polastrel Festival in Olfino di Monzambano (19 – 22 July 2023), with flavoured chicken, bigoli with sardines and other dishes.
  4. Taragnafest in Roncola San Bernardo near Bergamo (6-7 July 2024), dedicated to polenta taragna with mushrooms or meat.
  5. Stuffed Gnocchi Festival in Albino in the province of Bergamo (10 – 14 July 2024).
  6. Pizzoccheri Festival in Teglio in Valtellina (26 – 28 July 2024), with pizzoccheri, rye bread, cured meats and cheeses.

Festivals offer the opportunity to taste local specialties at reasonable prices and to enjoy cultural experiences in a festive atmosphere.

Other regions

Not to forget other important festivals that are organized during the year in other Italian regions:

Chilli pepper festival in Diamante, Calabria (7-11 September), where chilli pepper is the star in various recipes.
Fiorone festival in Giovinazzo, Puglia, near Bari, with recipes based on fiorone, music and shows, and tastings of local sandwiches and wine.
Porchetta Festival in Campli, Abruzzo, one of the oldest culinary festivals in the region, dedicated to porchetta and held in the last days of August.
National Chestnut Fair in Cuneo, Piedmont, which promotes typical products such as the brown chestnut, ancient flours, truffles, fine meats and hazelnuts.
These festivals offer high-quality food at affordable prices, allowing you to enjoy excellent street food and regional dishes in a festive and engaging atmosphere.
