Armed assault in Sassari, the loot exceeds 10 million – News

The exact amount of loot taken Friday evening by the robbers who attacked the Vedetta 2 Mondialpol headquarters in Sassari, shooting at the Carabinieri and the police, will be known today. The detectives of the Flying Squad and the heads of the security institute are completing the count this morning. At the moment it is assumed that the robbery may have netted a sum of more than 10 million euros. Money that was not in the vault, which the robbers were unable to reach thanks to the security measures put in place as soon as the alarm went off, but in the counting room, where deliveries for the following days were being prepared and where the daily collections were taking place.

Some 50 and 100 euro banknotes were found yesterday next to the van used by the armed commando to take away the loot and set on fire during the night between Saturday and Sunday under an overpass on state road 131, on the outskirts of Sassari.

The van, whose roof the bandits had cut to allow them to load the bags containing the money taken from Mondialpol more quickly, was seized by the Prosecutor’s Office and transported to a warehouse where it was analysed by experts from the forensic police.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the commando of about 20 people, who fled south, continues. The search continues throughout the central north of the island.
