The Fifteenth edition of the Festival “Tra Sacro e Sacro Monte” will take place from 4 to 25 July, as always set in the evocative setting of the Varese village and UNESCO site, which will see the participation of prestigious authors and performers of theatre and culture.

This important anniversary will focus on the theme of memory which, as explained by the artistic director Andrea Chiodi, is not nostalgia but a tribute to texts and characters that have made the history of Italian theater great. In the now distant 2010, some of the most important figures of the national scene accepted the challenge, including Lucilla Morlacchi, Piera Degli Esposti and Franca Nuti, who will be remembered by as many events as part of the festival. The festival will be opened by Laura Marinoni, one of the actresses most awarded by critics and the public, who on July 4 will present Matthew, the Gospelwith which Morlacchi inaugurated the event. Andrea Chiodi himself will follow, who on July 11th together with Ferdinando Baroffio will revive, through Dante, Piera Degli Esposti, his teacher and lady of the Italian scene, with The Three Guardians in the Divine Comedy. July 18th will be the turn of the Dialogues of the Carmelites by Georges Bernanos, a tribute to Franca Nuti who was the applauded protagonist, directed by Luca Ronconi. The performances will be performed by eighteen actresses of the new generation, who will try their hand at this classic, offering a contemporary version. On July 22, one of the most acclaimed artists at a national and international level, Toni Servillo, will take to the stage, paying homage to Giovanni Testori in a tribute to the great author and at the same time to the theater and the event itself, with the participation of the Orchestra Sacro Monte in the heart of the city, at the Giardini Estensi.

For the closing, on July 25th, the festival will return to the XIV Cappella with the much-loved Davide Van de Sfroos, who will in turn pay homage to a legendary protagonist of music, Bob Dylan, in A show of stories, sounds and visionsto seal the precious plot of stories and emotions proposed by the Festival to the spectators attending. Finally, there will be a rich session that includes an organ concert, as well as meetings and insights, guided tours, exhibitions and traveling shows and the return of children’s theater in collaboration with Karakorum Teatro and the Schiapparelli Astronomical Observatory.

An event not to be missed for those who love theatrical art in its many forms and wish to retrace, through memory, the wonderful history of the Italian scene expressed through the contribution of some of its most illustrious representatives.
