Terni. Not even the pine tree in Corso Tacito is saved. It is dangerous, it will be cut down

The stone pine tree that dominates Corso Tacito from Largo Villa Glori will be cut down.

His presence was deemed dangerous in an expert assessment carried out by Dr. Cristiano Massarelli.

“Given the peculiar rooting position of the plant, located in the pedestrian area of Corso Tacito, right in the historic center adjacent to residential buildings, we proceeded to carry out an in-depth evaluation of the vegetative and phytostatic state of the individual tree, also making use of specific instruments”. At the end of which “It is assessed that the
the results obtained should be considered equally valid in order to minimize risks to public safety.

Considering the high levels of attendance of the area by people, the presence of commercial establishments and buildings in the surrounding area, the vulnerability of the area is assessed as absolutely high. In relation the level of risk associated with the presence of the tree is equally high, as the effects related to its even partial collapse would be absolutely serious.

This means that the presence of the tree is not considered compatible with the characteristics of the site in question, assigning the specimen to the Collapse Propensity Class D.”

Based on this assessment, today the mayor of Terni Bandecchi signed the ordinance asking AFOR, the regional forestry agency, to immediately cut down the pine tree in question, as the tree in question has been included in the Collapse Propensity class D – Extreme”
