Bad weather: Piedmont requests state of emergency, damages caused amount to 25 million euros

The President of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio signed the request for a state of emergency addressed to the Prime Minister Georgia Melonito the Minister of Civil Protection Nello Musumeci and head of the Civil Protection department, Fabrizio Curcio, due to the violent rainfall that hit Piedmont last weekend in the provinces of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Turin and Vercelli. In particular, the territory of Valle Anzasca and Valle Divedro in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Alta Val Sesia in the province of Vercelli and Alta Val Susa, Valli di Lanzo, Valli Orco and Soana and Canavese in the city were involved Turin Metro. A first estimate of the interventions necessary for the urgent needs and for the immediate restoration of the damage caused by the disturbance which amounted to approximately 25 million euros was also completed, based on the inspections carried out in these hours by the technicians of the public works management of the Region and by Civil Protection teams. Inspections will continue in the coming days to define the reconstruction and risk reduction interventions that will need to be implemented in the coming weeks. At the moment it is necessary to wait for the river levels to return to be able to evaluate the erosion of the slopes and banks and have a complete picture of the situation.

The mountain councilor Marco Gallo is ready to organize a meeting with the mountain unions of the Orco and Soana Valleys, the Lanzo Valleys and the Ossola Valleys to take stock of the wounded mountain, studying possible interventions that go beyond those linked to the request for a state of emergency made by President Cirio. “I want to thank those who have been in the field for days with their work to support the places affected by the rains and to allow the safety of roads and rivers to be restored – said the president of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio -. Very quickly we sent the government the request for a state of emergency in order to immediately have resources for the extremely urgent works to be made available to the Municipalities. We were hit by a very violent phenomenon, which fortunately did not cause any victims and which we managed to contain thanks to the professionalism of our teams and also thanks to the safety works carried out in the area in recent years”, he concluded.
