Italian ORC Championship: the winners of Brindisi

The Italian ORC Offshore Sailing Championship, the event that awards national titles for regattas in compensated time, ended in Brindisi on June 29. The ORC calculation system is the most used in Italy, and for this reason the Absolute Champion is awarded with this calculation system.

A beautiful edition of the Italian Championships took place in Brindisi, with almost 50 boats in the water, and 8 out of 8 regattas completed thanks to a stiff breeze from the north-west that blew on the Brindisi course every day.

The overall victory in group A went to Claudio Terrieri’s Swan 45 Blue Sky, second place for ott Kikkas’ Italia 11.98 Sugar 3, third place for Pier Vettor Grimani’s X-41 Sideracordis.

In group B, victory went to the Italia 998 Sarchiapone Fuoriserie by Gianluigi Dubbini, ahead of two other 998s, Unpopergioco and Take Five JR.

There was also some controversy on the water regarding the rankings, in particular some crews contested a change in the rankings on some regattas compared to an initial version published by the Race Committee.

FIV President Ettorre also spoke on the subject at the end of the Championship with this statement: “We are not hiding behind a finger, I am sorry for some situations during the regatta, we will treasure it because we always want to see the competitors happy. We will draw attention to what can be done to always improve, which is our goal.”

However, there remains an Italian Offshore Sailing Championship, run in splendid conditions, with many races completed and a high level of the fleet in the water, in addition to a regatta field in Brindisi that has proven to be a particularly successful choice and promises to be able to host major events in the future too.
