The last act of the Coppa Italia Speed 2024 took place at the Up Urban Climbing in Bologna. This fourth and final stage not only awarded the medals of the competition, but was also decisive in terms of ranking to decide the winners of the Coppa Italia Assoluta of specialty.
After a hard-fought qualification, the shortlist of 16 finalists by gender was defined.
From the quarter-finals, Beatrice Colli reached the semifinals, beating Fiorio, Sara Strocchi got the better of Mortarino, Erica Piscopo beat Mengoli and Giulia Randi won the challenge with Fontana.
The semifinal highlights the two leading sprinters of the Italian national team: Colli, after having achieved excellent times in all phases of the race, surpasses herself with an excellent 7.00” that makes her win the challenge with Strocchi, while Randi surpasses Piscopo with a very valid 7.21”. In the final clash, now customary, between Colli and Randi, the victory goes to the future Olympic Colli, while Randi falls. In the challenge for third place Piscopo gets the better of Strocchi.
In the men’s section, the quarterfinals saw the victory of Rontini over Balestrazzi, Fossali over Borghi, Boulos over Robbiati and Giorgianni over Zodda. In the semi-final Rontini faces and overcomes Giorgianni, while in the challenge between Boulos and Fossali both make mistakes, but Fossali falls and Boulos finishes the run. In the final between Rontini and Boulos, the latter prevailed with a time of 5.38”. In the battle for bronze Fossali gets the better of Giorgianni, with 5.11”, the best time of the stage.
In light of these results, the winners of the 2024 Italian Cup were also crowned, namely Beatrice Colli (with 3 golds and 1 silver) and Ludovico Fossali (with 2 golds, a bronze and a 5th place). Silver for Randi and Rontini, bronze for Strocchi and Zodda.
At youth level, the overall Italian Cup title was won by Sara Strocchi and Samuele Graziani.
The next vertical speed events are the third stage of the World Cup in Chamonix (12-14 July) and the fourth stage in Briançon (17-19 July), as well as the European Youth Cup race in Zilina, Slovakia ( 19-21 July).
