Savona. Mayor Russo has nominated Savona as the 2027 capital of culture, but with what courage is he carrying forward this initiative?

Savona is a city in disarray and pervaded by decay. The municipal administration focuses on unsuccessful or even counterproductive projects such as the wooden walkway on the beach, destined to be swept away at the first storm; the pedestrianization of the city center streets, which made it impossible for citizens to move around the city.

The number of homeless people living on benches or in doorways has grown exponentially, as has the feeling of insecurity among residents. The usual night camps on the free beaches will soon be added, another source of squalor and delinquency which the municipal administration does not sufficiently curb and for which the local police often does not follow up on our reports due to lack of personnel.

Lastly, there is the problem of wild boars which, given the total lack of care for the Letimbro riverbed, have found a perfect habitat in which to settle and multiply. For a few days they have been roaming freely around the beaches.

Yesterday they went as far as my bathing establishment, Bagni Umberto, at least 1 km away from the mouth of the stream. They wandered freely among the umbrellas, dirtying the beach and entering the flowerbeds, where sea lilies, a rare and protected species, grow. Who are we accountable to for this latest inconvenience?

From May 1st it is forbidden to bring dogs to the beach for hygienic reasons, but wild boars are an exception. If we called the police, would they have to fine the Mayor for walking around the beach without a leash, bottle and bags for collecting faeces? A tragic farce has been underway in this city for some time. Mayor Russo, stop thinking about cycle paths and unlikely walks by the sea: start giving answers to those who live in the city and to those who work there, offer services and contribute to the GDP.

Alberto Delucis, beach establishment manager
