Things are not improving, on the contrary: the waiting list for nursery schools in the city is growing. As many as 205 families are currently left without a place (there were 175, 12 months ago), in view of September, reports The Echo of Bergamo. The figure was affected by the boom in requests, 489, from families residing in the city, compared to 431 last year.

Works in progress

Moreover, the current overall capacity of the municipal structures is rather low – 541 places – due to the ongoing reconstruction of five structures, thanks to funding from the Pnrr. Once fully operational, there will be a total of 140 more places.

Carnevali worried

The new mayor Elena Carnevali spoke precisely about this topic during her inauguration speech: the need to improve services in this area is clear, but there is also a certain concern about the cuts in funding for Municipalities “which penalize , in particular, those most virtuous in the acquisition of Pnrr funds”.

940 seats in total

In all, the nursery system in Bergamo offers over 940 places, distributed across 33 structures, of which 14 municipal and 18 private or accredited. The families left excluded will therefore turn to the market, perhaps even outside the city.
