THE EAGLE. More closures and restrictions for the Fontesecco area. The Municipality continues with the redevelopment project of the area between the convent of Beata Antonia, via Sallustio and piazza Fontesecco which also includes the valorisation of the ancient cloister of the convent. The construction site, however, will necessarily cause some difficulties for the traffic in the area which is already suffering from the installation of traffic lights on Via XX Settembre.
the CLOSURES
In recent days, in fact, the ordinance of the municipal police provides for changes to the traffic in the square and via Fontesecco. In particular, a parking ban has been established with a removal zone until 3 July in the square, while in via Fontesecco the roadway will be narrowed with a parking ban, removal zone, from the intersection with via Venanzio Lupacchini to the intersection with via Buccio da Ranallo. The company “Tecno Edil di Varallo Salvatore” with registered office in Marsico Nuovo (Potenza), which will take care of the redevelopment works of the area, “in a coordinated manner with the developments resulting from the state of progress of the works, will always have to guarantee the access to any residents in the section affected by the works, to personnel on rescue duty including with stretchers and to the police, immediately removing any obstructions from the road section and possibly using vehicle plates” as specified in the ordinance, which explains also: “A pedestrian path must be guaranteed around the entire perimeter of the construction site area, including that close to the building located between via Sant’Antonio Pinto and via Sassa”.
600 THOUSAND EUROS
The cost of the works alone is 395,016 euros (VAT included). For the entire intervention, 610,000 euros had been allocated thanks to the PRI complementary fund. The final project was drawn up by the engineer Arianna Dari Salzburg.
THE NEW SQUARE
The goal is to change the face of the entire area. After the demolition of the most “modern” part of the convent of the Blessed Antonia, the historical part of the building was “revealed”, and in particular the ancient cloister of the monastery of the Poor Clares who moved to Paganica years ago. Precisely to allow continuous usability of the cloister, in place of the demolished building (which the Municipality will have to compensate the property or alternatively relocate), a square will be created.
THE CHURCH
Meanwhile, in recent months, post-earthquake renovation work has begun on the church of the Blessed Antonia, built at the request of the rich merchant from L’Aquila. Giacomo Gaglioffi. The consolidation and restoration work of the monastic complex was entrusted by the Board of Public Works, with a tender, to the Iciet company of Castelli, for an amount of 3 million. The area between the church of Beata Antonia and via Sallustio, therefore, will soon change its face.
