The students of the course of Recovery and Redevelopment of Buildings of the Master’s Degree Course in Building Systems Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari presented in the auditorium of the Manlio Chapter Technical Institute in the presence of the Mayor Salvatore Cosmathe first project proposals for the recovery of Palazzo Labriolaconsidered as a paradigmatic case study of the built context of Rabatana di Tursi.
These proposals have been developed in recent months by the students, who initially carried out the survey of the material-technical-constructive characteristics, as well as the pathologies and damage present in the building and subsequently identified the possible recovery interventions, defining two refunctionalisation proposals based on following an analysis of the socio-economic and cultural context of Tursi.

In the afternoon, a participatory design and coworking activity took place between the students of the Polytechnic of Bari and the students of the Master’s Degree Course in Architecture of the University of Basilicata, under the coordination of the teachers Fabio Fatiguso, Graziella Bernardo and Giuseppe Andrisani .

On Friday 24 May the students of the Master’s Degree Course in Architecture of the University of Basilicata will present their studies on the building and the Rabatana.

All activities were supported by various researchers, research fellows and doctoral students from the two universities.

The students will complete their works in the next few weeks and they will subsequently be presented and discussed, together with the studies on the Saracen alleys of Forio d’Ischia conducted by the students of the University of Naples Federico II and the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, in an event as part of the 13th edition of the “Torri in festa Torri in Luce” event which will be held in Ischia on 16 June 2024.

The studies carried out, in the context of institutional collaborations between public bodies such as the universities and the municipal administration of Tursi, could form the basis for policies, strategies and initiatives for the valorisation and recovery of the Rabatana di Tursi.

Mayor Cosma’s satisfaction: “The commitment towards the valorisation and recovery of Rabatana continues unceasingly, seeking ideas and studies that can make what we all dream and imagine achievable.

Talking about the possibilities of recovery and sustainable development for Rabatana with the universities and with a joint synergy work, I am convinced, can represent a fundamental viaticum which, with the interception of regional, national and European funding, will allow us to achieve important results , perhaps also strengthened by the recognition of UNESCO Heritage for which the Rabatane of Tursi, Tricarico and Pietrapertosa have been candidates since 2017.”
