FOLIGNO – The prize for the Giostra della Quintana de La Sfida was revealed during the Great Dinner on Saturday at Palazzo Trinci. It was created by the artist Diego Miguel Mirabella with the technical collaboration of the tailor Massimo Fiordiponti. “Diego Miguel Mirabella – Marta Silvi writes about him – is an unusual artist, his artistic process never represents an isolated path but is born and develops in the exchange, in the dialogue, in the consideration and acceptance of the cultural imagination of other artists or local artisans”. The artist himself states: “I travel around the world to compare myself with local artisans and focus on the decorations used by communities and how to absorb them in my research, developing them as a language to communicate with them: my goal is to write a visual odyssey through artefacts”. “With this same approach Mirabella – adds Silvi – arrives in Foligno and immerses himself in a reality that is new and stimulating for him, which leads him to the discovery of a particularly nourished solid historical tradition, that of the Quintana and its symbols, leading him to dialogue with the people involved in the Event and to absorb its spirit through their eyes and their stories. In particular, with Massimo Fiordiponti, stylist and member of the Institution’s Artistic Commission, who made his Quintana culture and his skills available through a welcoming and intuitive collaboration, in composing the prize presented for the Challenge, Untitled”. Diego Miguel Mirabella, 36 years old, in many of his projects makes use of the imagination, customs and culture of other artists or artisans, with the aim of investigating the boundary of communication and exchange between himself and “the other”, creating works that arise from this dialogue. Massimo Fiordiponti from Foligno and Quintanaro, 54 years old from Quintana, councilor and prior of the Ammanniti district, vice-president and president of the Artistic Commission of the Giostra Institution, currently a member of the current one. For 2 years designer of Miss Europe Continental, he creates wedding, evening and historical dresses. In 2016 he co-founded the artist run space Limone in London.
