VARESE – Demonstration for the right to abortion, this afternoon, at the Varese hospital. Three days after the 46th anniversary of law 194, which recognized the right to terminate a pregnancy on 22 May 1978, the feminist collective FemVa and Eos, the anti-violence center of Varese, symbolically took to the streets to demonstrate.

At the center of the demonstration is what is happening, particularly in recent times, around Italy, between conscientious objections and anti-abortion associations in hospitals and clinics. It should be remembered that the Del Ponte hospital is home to an important maternal and child care centre. And here the Movement for Life has a listening desk open at the same hours and on the same days in which it receives the clinic for voluntary termination of pregnancy.

“Rights are never definitively acquired”

“Anti-abortion associations have been present in hospitals and also in clinics for many years – writes the FemVa association on Facebook – thanks to the pioneering policies of Regions such as Veneto, Piedmont, Marche, our own Lombardy, which was the first region to establish a fund administered by the Pro-Life Movement way back in 2000, or Umbria”.

“And it is from Umbria that the Right will take the next step: in Terni they managed to get Catholic and pro-life associations into anti-violence centers – the post continues -. We fear that local conduct like this could spread nationwide. Rights are never something definitively acquiredmust be constantly monitored and defended.”
