Pogacar wins the twentieth stage of the Giro d’Italia and equals Merckx’s record of 5 victories in the pink jersey. This is yet another great race for the cyclist in this Tour of Italy. Pogacar won the stage two minutes ahead of his pursuers.

Sky Sports recounts the victory:

Tadej Pogacar scores another masterpiece, yet another of his career and of this Giro d’Italia. He sprints up the second climb of Monte Grappa, he clears the way and wins his sixth victory in this pink race, the fifth with the leader’s jersey equaling Eddy Merckx. Tomorrow the final catwalk in Rome for the Slovenian pink jersey.

Tadej Pogacar isn’t just winning the Giro. He almost made it fail out of manifest superiority. We didn’t make a great impression abroad: they accuse the organizers of having “flattened” the route on purpose to seduce the Slovenian. This year he wants to do a double: Giro plus Tour (where Vingegaard, Roglic and Evenepoel await him). And here he is almost halfway through the work. They also “accused” him because he exaggerates, he wants to win everything, always. And come on… it’s not done. Instead he says that he really does. And he explains it in an interview with Marca.

“We came here to win as much as possible and this was an important part of our strategy. Cycling races are there to be won. Obviously the most important thing is to arrive in Rome dressed in pink, so we never deviated from that objective and in my opinion we kept our tactics in line with this. We knock on wood to stay safe and avoid bad luck, but in cycling races anything can happen. A big lead can mean very little if things go wrong. I wouldn’t say it scares me too much, but at the same time we do everything we can to avoid it.”
