the students on stage at the Fonderia Leopolda

Follonica (Grosseto). On the occasion of the end-of-year show, over 150 students from the “Leopold II of Lorena” comprehensive institute in Follonica, accompanied by 22 teachers, fresh from the training course held by Luana Gramegna and Gianluca Gabriele from Zaches Teatro, performed at the Teatro Fonderia Leopolda, Friday 24 May, a theatrical show entitled “Beyond the dark forest”.

The show

Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, the intent of the show is to represent the journey of life and the journey for life, through the use of different expressive languages.

Dante takes a metaphorical journey into the realms of the afterlife to reconcile with himself after a moment of confusion; the show created by the Institute was born with the intention of uniting Dante’s journey with that of our children and the current reality of migrants.

In the first case it is a path of growth and rediscovery of the self, in the second it is a journey in search of better opportunities.

The VA and VB classes of the “Bruno Buozzi” school, the VA and VB classes of the “Don Milani” school and the IB, II B and II F classes of the “Bugiani” worked in various areas to contribute to the realization of the show.

There class III F of the “Arrigo Bugiani” secondary school got involved by welcoming the interventions of the two trainers, Luana Gramegna and Gianluca Gabriele, and trying to best interpret the message of the entire show as well as what the companions of the class II B they wanted to convey when composing their text. The class benefited from some dedicated interventions by Zaches Teatro, consolidating what was learned during some moments dedicated in the morning by the teachers involved in the project.

There class II B of the “Arrigo Bugiani” secondary school contributed to the creation of the show by participating in a creative writing project led by the operator Chiara Migliorini, of the Lotus Company, and under the supervision of the teachers Marina Torlaschi and Giuseppina Romano. In this process, which took place during school hours, for a total of 10 hours starting from February, all the students in the class worked together to create a part of the theatrical script which they then performed. They have learned to adapt a literary text to stage needs, without, however, distorting its meaning. The themes of travel, community, fear, inclusion and human dignity were addressed to create content that arose from the students’ reflections and experiences.

The classes VA and VB of the “B” plexus. Buozzi” they created their scenes thinking above all about the use of the body. They experimented with various bodily expressions creating their own personal theatrical choreography. Furthermore, they managed to integrate the non-verbal text with the use of body percussion and sticks.

This allowed us to better understand their body and the emotions that travel through it.

The girls and boys of fifth classes of the “Don Milani” school they represent a choir of souls that wanders in the three kingdoms, creating different atmospheres with recited phrases and songs. Lyrics describing situations and feelings were created on musical pieces by very famous groups, arranged for the occasion.

A choral work that then harmonizes in the final performance where everyone brings their own contribution. The show ends with the word future and to build the future we must undertake a journey….

The theater welcomed the students’ performance with applause and enthusiasm and the applause never ended when children and teachers chorally interpreted the last part and sang and danced expressing their joy to the notes of a very famous modern song.
